Founder, Larry Wilkins, works for NASA on the race to the moon.
Larry Wilkins founds ERL Inc. (ERL) as a job shop making high precision parts for jet engines, paint mixers, forklifts, and mining equipment.
ERL grows into fabrication with a line of chairs for the rail industry and its own design of satellite dishes. Wilkins engineers specialized in quality-control equipment for General Electric. For about 10 years running, ERL is the preferred gauging vendor for General Electric.
In 2005, ERL purchases Law Valve of Texas, the leader in valve and pump repairs for the marine industry. This allows ERL to expand service and repair operations to a much wider customer base.
ERL moves service and repair operations from a 6,000-sf facility to an 18,000-sf facility conveniently located just miles from several barge companies in Houston.
ERL builds the only pump test facility in the inland marine industry.
ERL triples in size. Product lineup includes equipment for cargo gauging, overfill protection, venting, pumping, and barge connection, all manufactured at the company’s 50,000-square-foot facility in New Albany, Ind.
